When I started research anxiety For my book Accepting anxietyI faced a big problem: everyone who spoke to my panic and confused anxiety!
Friends and family, therapists and counselors, doctors, books on anxiety, and everyone I asked explained it. panic. I’m not worried Feelings of motivationgetting things done and getting to the deadline, but panic is the feeling that intervene to save your life when you are in danger.
When asked about anxiety, people (and books) explained sweaty palms, feelings of fear, increased heart rate, increased adrenaline, confusion, blank spaces, impending failure, and the need to ignite and escape as they freeze.
Panic is a wonderful life-saving emotion that brings you the powerful energy you need to fight, run away, freeze, or swarm safely, but it’s not unsettling.
Early in my life, I was also ignorant of anxiety. I, like most people, confused anxiety with panic. But in 2010, when I heard psychologist Mary Lamia talk about anxiety on a radio show, all my light bulbs went off quickly!
In 2017, Mary wrote her own book about her anxiety Motivating to get things done (See below).
With Mary’s information, I was able to adapt my anxiety to my model of emotions, Dynamic emotional integrationa unified theory of emotions that explores why emotions arise, how they function, and how to work directly with them. Anxiety was once a blank spot in my theory, but thankfully, anxiety is now introduced as its own irreplaceable self.
Anxiety is the feeling of motivation, planning, scheduling, and getting things done. Anxiety can help you gather resources, complete tasks, and meet deadlines. To do that, anxiety needs to be enthusiastically focused on the future and ensure that you have skills, resources, tools and support.
This is why there are two aspects of anxiety that can make you feel anxious. First, it is a very energetic emotion, looking at many things at once and tending to focus on hypers. Second, your anxiety will guide you into the future when you plan what’s going forward. An increase in energy and future focus is, by itself, exists and unfounded, especially if you don’t realize your anxiety is trying to help you.
If you don’t understand your anxiety, you may mistake that energy and the strength of your progress for a problem. Also, if there are too many tasks to complete or too many deadlines, the natural ramping-up behavior of anxiety may send you to the tail spin. Instead of grabbing the energy of completing an uneasy task and deadlines, you may be overwhelmed and lose focus and motivation.
When you lose the gift of anxiety and can no longer function, panic may need to move forward to see what you can do. While physical life may not be at risk in this situation, if you blow deadlines or do not complete tasks, your work life, school success, or relationships can be at risk. In such a situation, panic may provide that energy to help you!
However, if you don’t know that your panic is responding to a possible danger, it can fall into the tail spin. You may be filled with intense anxiety trying to help motivate you. That’s Manyand I created a new word, General purpose (Panic + Anxiety), as a kind and humorous way to help people identify these two powerful emotions when they become partners.
Each of these emotions has its own gifts and skills, and each can work directly together by asking their own message and questions that support the gift.
In dynamic emotional integration, we interact with them by working directly with our emotions and supporting them in what they are already trying to do. This is very different from most emotions –management Techniques that tend to argue with emotions try to suppress them in some way or force another. happinessto the situation. However, this work focuses on why emotions exist, what they do, and how they work gracefully with their innate emotional genius.
When panic is present, I tend to focus on it first. Because it’s a life-saving feeling that might warn me of real danger.

Often, in general situations, panic is there to help me avoid Possible A future threat (loss of my job, my income, or my social status). So while it’s important to listen to what it says, it’s also important to reassure my panic that no threat is happening right now. Knowing that, you and your anxiety can breathe in and refocus on yourself.
Reconstructing this feeling as a collaborative and effectiveness helps people stay alive more fully and reduce the unnecessary suffering that they cause when they mistakenly treat emotions as problems.
Once my panic needs are met, I move on to what anxiety is trying to do for me.

These questions will help you focus your anxiety on your most important tasks, so you can go to zero rather than spin out. Note that most suggestions for anxiety are to try and calm yourself by taking deep breaths or soothing repetitions positive To yourself.
